ICEHA's Unique Features
ICEHA’s programs bridge the gap between a wealth of western expertise and the needs in resource-poor settings. Unique features include:
- Leveraging the abundance of medical expertise in the developed world to provide resource-poor countries with the expertise to take charge of their own populations and combat the HIV epidemic from within. This is in contrast with organizations such as MSF, Doctors without Borders, etc., which provide medical care itself, but focus minimally on building local HIV/AIDS expertise. ICEHA’s programs are sustainable and their effects last for generations to come.
- Volunteering technical assistance on a pro bono basis. ICEHA’s volunteer HIV providers not only work on a pro bono basis for up to eight weeks per year; they are also carefully screened and trained prior to being sent abroad. This allows our volunteers to achieve optimal effectiveness upon arrival in resource-poor settings. ICEHA is unique in offering this level of consistency in quality to resource-poor settings.
- Broadening access to healthcare. By expanding the number of local healthcare providers who are capable of providing HIV care to patients, our programs in effect bring healthcare to patients beyond the larger cities where healthcare is traditionally available.
- Collaborating through an extensive network of partner organizations. ICEHA has effectively managed to bring together various organizations, universities, and teaching institutions across the political spectrum. This creates a multiplying effect on the expertise available.
